The biggest news in the History of Orkney Boats

After 10 years of our very successful Pilothouse 24 being the flagship of the Orkney fleet, we can reveal that its about to get a bigger brother.

The Orkney 27 due to be on sale in mid/late next year and will add to the already highly regarded Pilothouse range. Offered in either a long wheelhouse with up to 4 berth and short wheelhouse option with more deck space (the long wheelhouse option is shown) it will appeal across the board from people who want to cruise, fish or both. With a flat floor and a walk-through transom on both models (features that already been well received) this already set to become an iconic Orkney Boat.

Although preliminary information is sparse more is coming all the time so ring or come and visit our factory for more details as build slots likely to be taken early to ensure delivery for next season.

North East Sea Angling and Boat Show

Earlier this month Phil and Mark from P.A. Lynch Limited attended the first North East Sea Angling and Boat Show in Newcastle over the weekend of the 25th & 26th October.

Although unsure of what to expect, the overall impression was that of a well attended, well organised show with people looking to buy. Not bad for the first attempt and is sure to help ensure it returns next year.

On display they had the Orkney 440 and Pilothouse 20 fitted with the all new Suzuki DF80 only recently launched at the Southampton Boatshow along with both inflatable's and smaller engines. Although there were several of our competitors boats on display, it was clear that ours drew the biggest crowds!

Orkney have always had a strong presence in this part of the world and the new boats were admired by many. This has been achieved largely through our dealer in this area, P.A. Lynch who have been working with us for over 20 years+ and have built up a wealth of experience and knowledge of our products.

P.A. Lynch will be be exhibiting at a whole host of shows along with many of our other dealers so watch this space for more details.

Orkney Boats at the show

As many of you who follow the Orkney boat range through the years already know, we are not renowned for launching boats in quick succession, however, this year was the exception. Launched on the first Friday of the Southampton International Boat Show where 2 completely new Orkney's completing the Series 2 line up.

The first of the range was launched last year at the same time with the 592 and now the 522 and 452 complete the series. Featuring still many of the features that have made our brand so successful over the years such as easy to launch, good performance with moderate engine horsepower and low maintenance ensure that this range will continue our traditions.

Both the 592 & 522 have been recently tested by the press and came through with glowing reports about both their finish and sea keeping, however, based on the Nelson design theme this isn't surprising. Keep an eye out for the next issue of Sea Angler where the 452 is put through its paces and doesn't disappoint.

For more details on the new Series 2 or any of the Orkney line-up, simply contact your dealer for more information.

Orkney secure contract to supply boats into Malawi

After several weeks of discussions, Orkney Boats has been awarded a contract to supply Orkney Dory 315's into Africa.

Chosen for their tough build and durability they are to be supplied as part of a contract won by Central Fleetwatch Limited. These Dory's are to be used by the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Development in Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi and are due to be shipped at the end of October.

ABP choose Orkney

Last month Orkney Boats delivered a custom built Orkney Pilothouse 20 to their Edinburgh based dealers, Bosuns Locker, for a key commercial customer in Scotland.

The Association of British Ports based in Troon Scotland, chose the Orkney Pilothouse with some additions to perform day to day tasks including towage and emergency pilot work as their latest acquisition. Fitted with Heavy Duty 'D' section fendering there was little else altered on the boat just going to show how robustly built the Orkney's are to start with.

An Orkney shaft drive after 25 years

Earlier this year we finished a boat with a type of propulsion not fitted by us for the last 25 years, shaft drive.

Built for a local boat builder/yard, (Northshore Yachts of Itchenor). Orkney produced a shaft driven 592, one of our new generation 19 footers. Based on a standard boat with a countersunk tunnel in the hull to reduce the operation depth and fitted with a 29hp Yanmar, the boat produced a top speed of 9.5knots. However, in this case the boat was designed as a work boat to pull boats around and ferry customers and yard staff, but for other applications more speed is possible.

The last time we supplied a shaft drive boat we based it on two Orkney Fastliner 16, boats that are still in use today although they were built over 25years ago!

Although the 592 shaft drive version is not in main  production, it is available as a custom build and depending on interest may be launched as a new range in our already impressive line-up.

For further information on what we could offer please contact your nearest dealer.
